The Battle of Cobadin

The Battle of Cobadin
Following defeats at Tutrakan and Dobrich in early September 1916, Russian and Romanian troops in Dobruja withdrew to the Rasova–Cobadin–Tuzla defensive line. Its flanks rested on the Danube and the Black Sea. It protected Cernavodă and Constanța, through which reserves and ammunition could be delivered unhindered. On 18–19 September, Bulgarian troops attacked directly from their advance but failed to break through because of accumulated fatigue and casualties. Units of the Third Army then organised for defence and repelled numerous enemy attacks. On 19 October, Bulgarian troops, operating with German and Turkish units, launched a second attack on the Cobadin position. On 21 October, they broke through the enemy's defences, forcing a rapid withdrawal northwards. Victory at Cobadin was decisive in securing Northern Dobruja and clearing it entirely of enemy troops.
The battle ended in a Bulgarian victory.
