Stratsin–Kumanovo Operation
Year: 1944
Location: Vardar River
Period: Third Bulgarian State
Ruler: Simeon II Saxe-Coburg-Gotha
The Stratsin–Kumanovo Operation was an offensive by the Bulgarian army during Bulgaria's participation in the Second World War against the Third Reich. Its aim was to block the retreat of German Army Group E from Greece to Central Europe and protect the approaches to the Vardar River valley. Conducted from 8 October to 14 November 1944, it took place alongside the Niš offensive and the Bregalnica–Strumitsa offensive. Because of Skopje's geopolitical importance, the Bulgarian First and Fourth Armies were sent towards it with the aim of liberating it.
On 13 November 1944, the Germans began to withdraw from the city. The following day, the Bulgarian troops successfully entered its boundaries.
