Mancho Manev was born in Panagyurishte and was a well-known Bulgarian revolutionary who later became mayor of Plovdiv. After participating in the April Uprising of 1876, he and other revolutionaries from Panayot Volov's detachment crossed the Balkan Mountains and were received by the revolutionary committee in the village of Samovodene, where they hid for three months before emigrating to Romania.
During the Russo-Turkish War, Mancho Manev joined the Bulgarian Volunteer Corps and later settled in Plovdiv. In 1885 he supported the movement to unite Eastern Rumelia with the Principality of Bulgaria and fought in the Serbo-Bulgarian War. He chaired the Plovdiv association of volunteers and veterans of the liberation struggle and was elected a municipal councillor and member of parliament.
From October 1893 to July 1894, Mancho Manev was mayor of Plovdiv. In 1920, despite his important contribution, he fell into destitution and was forced to live in a home for the elderly with assistance from the Supreme Charitable Committee.
