The Battle of Bulair

The Battle of Bulair
The Battle of Bulair formed part of the offensive launched after the Young Turk coup, intended to break into Eastern Thrace towards besieged Edirne. A Turkish attack by one division began early on 8 February 1913 but was halted immediately before the Bulgarian trenches. The following day, another Ottoman division joined the fighting, and overwhelming numerical superiority enabled the enemy to begin enveloping the Bulgarian left flank. A powerful Bulgarian counterattack averted the danger, causing panic first on the enemy's right wing and then throughout its formation. Fleeing in disorder, the troops became easy targets for rifle and artillery fire. Thus, two Bulgarian regiments almost completely destroyed two Turkish divisions.
The battle ended in a Bulgarian victory, with the Turkish force losing almost half its personnel as well as a large quantity of weapons.
