The Battle of Ashtatgizma Pass

Year: 687
Location: Rentina, Aegean Macedonia, Greece
Ruler: Asparuh

The battle took place in Ashtatgizma Pass, at the mouth of the Rentina River. There, Asparuh's Bulgarians came to assist Kuber's forces. Kuber's Bulgarians were the troops of Kan Kuber, ruler of a Bulgar khanate deep within the Byzantine Empire, on the Keramision Plain.

The battle ended in a Bulgarian victory and the defeat of Justinian II Rhinotmetos's forces. It strengthened Kuber's position in the region and consolidated the military alliance between the two Bulgar formations.
