The Battle of Anchialos
Year: 763
Location: Anchialos, Pomorie, Bulgaria
Ruler: Telets
After the Bulgarian victory at Rish Pass in 759, rival clans struggled over succession to the Bulgarian throne. The ruling Vokil clan was replaced by the Ugain clan, and Khan Telets of the Ugain clan ascended the throne. Early in his reign, he launched devastating raids into Thrace. These events prompted Emperor Constantine V to renew military action against Bulgaria. His army again reached Anchialos Fortress, where the battle took place on 30 June 763.
The battle ended in a Bulgarian defeat, and Khan Telets was forced to escape by fleeing.
