Telets

Title: Kan
Accession: 760
End of rule: 763

After Khan Vineh’s death, Khan Telets of the Ugain dynasty ascended the Bulgarian throne. As a ruler, he was noted for his severity and determination. He decided to act immediately against the terms of the peace treaty, which were humiliating for the Bulgarians. Telets attacked and devastated several Byzantine fortresses in eastern Thrace. The decisive clash between the two armies took place on 30 June 763 near Anchialus, present-day Pomorie, where the Bulgarians suffered a crushing defeat. Many members of the Bulgarian aristocracy were captured. Khan Telets and those close to him were killed.
