The Battle for Dobrich

Year: 1916
Location: Dobrich, Bulgaria

Romanian, Russian and Serbian units attacked Dobrich. Despite the enemy's considerable numerical superiority, units of the 8th Primorski Infantry Regiment repelled it. The attack resumed the next day, bringing the enemy close to the Bulgarian positions, but a bayonet counterattack drove it back. By the end of the day, units of the 35th Vratsa and 36th Kozloduy Infantry Regiments had joined the town's defence. On 7 September, the enemy advanced on Dobrich with its full strength. The situation became critical when, late in the afternoon, General Ivan Kolev's Cavalry Division fiercely attacked the enemy's right flank. Panic quickly spread throughout its formation, leading to a disorderly retreat. Victory at Dobrich facilitated the Tutrakan Operation and accelerated the liberation of Southern Dobruja.

The battle ended in a Bulgarian victory.
