Battle of Adrianople, 914
Year: 914
Location: Adrianople, present-day Thessaloniki
Ruler: Simeon the Great
Empress Zoe Zaoutzaina refused to recognise Simeon the Great as tsar. This prompted him to advance against Byzantium and invade Thrace, where a clash took place at Adrianople.
The Bulgarian army captured Adrianople. Other detachments headed towards the regions of Dyrrachium and Thessaloniki. Simeon the Great continued to press the Byzantines.
