Engraving

Period: Ottoman rule

Engraving is a form of graphic art. Engravings can be made in various materials, including wood, silver, gold, copper, steel and glass. Intaglio printing is also used to transfer engraved images to paper. Engraving involves cutting or removing material from the surface of a printing plate, which is then inked and transferred to paper using a press. This method allows artists to create highly detailed and expressive works. Historically, engraving was used both to reproduce images and as an expressive artistic medium. In modern times, the arrival of new technologies such as etching, photography and other printing methods has reduced its commercial use. Nevertheless, engraving remains highly valued as art and as a collectors' item.

Bulgarian engravers include Daskal Kamche, Yakov Kraykov, Hristo Dimitrov and others.
