The Uprising in Bdin (Vidin)
Year: 1211
Period: Second Bulgarian Empire
An uprising led by local boyars broke out in Bdin and quickly assumed threatening proportions. The rebels justified their secession by challenging the legitimacy of Tsar Boril's rule. The Bulgarian ruler sought assistance from King Andrew II of Hungary, who sent military detachments to suppress the uprising. In return, Boril ceded the lands around Belgrade and Braničevo to Hungary.
This began a series of political upheavals and power struggles that continued to destabilise the Second Bulgarian Empire over the following decades. Despite repressive measures, Boril never fully consolidated his authority, opening the way to further revolts and foreign invasions.
