The Revolt of Dobromir and Leka
Year: 1079
Period: Byzantine rule
The revolts of Dobromir and Leka broke out as two independent rebellions in 1079. Dobromir's revolt began in Mesembria (Nessebar), at the same time as that of Leka, a leader from Plovdiv who captured the lands around Sredets. Dobromir succeeded in winning Cuman detachments to his side. He established contact with Leka, who had secured Pecheneg support, and together they undertook military action against the Byzantine Empire. The insurgents' inadequate weapons and several unsuccessful battles brought the fighting to an end.
The revolt of Dobromir and Leka ended in failure. Its leaders expressed repentance before the Byzantine emperor, who rewarded them with high ranks and gifts.
