The Razlovtsi Uprising

The Razlovtsi Uprising
In 1876, in the context of the April Uprising against the Ottoman Empire, the Razlovtsi Uprising, also known as the Malashevo Uprising, broke out in the Malashevo and Piyanets regions of Bulgaria. Preparations began in Thessaloniki in late 1875, when a revolutionary group led by Dimitar Popgeorgiev Berovski was formed from members of the Bulgarian Dawn society. Under their leadership, the detachment prepared and planned the uprising in the village of Razlovtsi in 1875, purchasing weapons from Thessaloniki and Kyustendil and making a flag for the coming struggle.
After Ottoman authorities arrested revolutionaries, the uprising broke out prematurely in Razlovtsi in May 1876, when Ottoman tax officials arrived in the village. The detachment led by Berovski and Father Stoyan attacked the officials, but Berovski was wounded in the subsequent fighting and some rebels were killed. Father Stoyan took his own life, while others escaped and joined other detachments.
The uprising ended in brutal suppression, and participants were arrested and persecuted by the Ottoman authorities.
