The Ohrid–Debar Uprising
Year: 1913
Period: Third Bulgarian State
During the Balkan War (1912–1918), Serbian and Greek forces occupied most of Macedonia without hindrance. Following the Tikveš Uprising, a large-scale uprising broke out in early September 1913, encompassing the Debar, Ohrid and Struga regions. Bulgarians and Albanians acted jointly in these territories.
The uprising was suppressed by the Serbian authorities. In the conquered regions of Macedonia, the Serbs established a severe occupation regime. Bulgarian churches and schools were destroyed and replaced with Serbian ones.
