Michael's Revolt against Peter I

Year: 930

The revolt of Michael, Tsar Simeon's eldest son, against Tsar Peter I began after Peter's accession, when Michael was denied the throne despite having held the title kanartikin, or heir apparent, during his father's lifetime. Michael was made a monk after Peter I ascended the throne.

Nevertheless, Michael seized a strong fortress, probably in the empire's south-western reaches, and many Bulgarians joined his revolt. It attracted considerable attention and posed a serious threat to Peter I's authority.

Although Michael assembled substantial forces, his unexpected death halted his undertaking, ending the revolt and his struggle for the throne.
