Ichirgu-boil Tuk

Ichirgu-boil Tuk
Tuk
During Krum's reign, 803–814, Ichirgu-boil Tuk held an important position in Bulgarian government. This is evident from the inscription from Hambarli village, which describes Tuk as the chief of the ichirgu-boils on the right side, with the strategoi Vardan and Yani as his subordinates. During Omurtag's reign, 814–831, Tuk continued to hold the office of ichirgu-boil. An inscription of 821 confirms this, mentioning Tuk as Omurtag's envoy. This allows us to suppose that he continued performing his duties after 820. Following Kan Krum's death, three people are mentioned in connection with the persecution of Christians, one of them Tsok, probably an incorrect spelling of Tuk. Under Malamir, 831–836, the office of ichirgu-boil is mentioned, but its holder is not named. It is therefore unclear whether Tuk continued in the position or was replaced. At this point, the kavhan was named Isbul, indicating a change in the senior offices of Bulgarian government.
