Ichirgu-boil Petar

Petar

Accession: 852
End of rule: 889

Two ichirgu-boils are mentioned during Prince Boris's reign, 852–889: Stazis and Petar. Ichirgu-boil Stazis was one of those who represented Bulgaria at the council in Constantinople in 869–870.

Between 866 and 869, Prince Boris sent a man named Petar to Rome to conduct negotiations. In 879, Pope John VIII wrote to this man, called Petar Cerbula. Zlatarski regarded Cerbula as an erroneous form of Zergobula, an abbreviated version of the title ichirgu-boil. The change in office evidently occurred between 869, when Stazis is last mentioned, and 879, when Petar bore the title. This indicates that Petar assumed the office of ichirgu-boil during the second half of Prince Boris's reign.
