Pavel Stanyov Bobekov was a Bulgarian revolutionary known for his role as chairman of the Provisional Government during the April Uprising in the Fourth Revolutionary District. He commanded a thousand men in Panagyurishte and died while serving as a volunteer at General Gurko's headquarters during the Russo-Turkish War.
Bobekov came from a family in Panagyurishte and received a good education, completing the graded school there. He subsequently studied in Constantinople and established connections with other young Bulgarians. His father's death forced him to interrupt his studies and return to his hometown, where he became head teacher and chairman of the chitalishte, or community cultural centre. He expanded the school from three grades to four and engaged in activities related to his fellow townspeople's education and culture.
During Bulgaria's revolutionary events, Bobekov was elected chairman of the region's Provisional Government and commander of a thousand men in Panagyurishte. He belonged to the democratic opposition to Georgi Benkovski and led the town's defence against Ottoman forces. After the uprising was suppressed, he escaped to Romania, where he participated as a volunteer in other armed conflicts.
Bobekov earned great respect among his compatriots for his involvement in the revolutionary events and his volunteer service. He died while serving as a volunteer at General Gurko's headquarters during the Russo-Turkish War and was buried with honours in Veliko Tarnovo. Before his death, he expressed his conviction that he had fulfilled his duty to the Fatherland and his pride at having seen Bulgaria free.
