Tarkan Onegavon

Onegavon

Title: Tarkan
Accession: 814
End of rule: 831

Negavon, or Onegavon, was a zera-tarkan who served the Bulgarian Kan Omurtag. He belonged to the Kubiar clan and was among the ruler's close associates, known as 'fed men', or retainers.

According to Omurtag's commemorative stone inscription, the only evidence for Negavon, he belonged to the kan's inner circle of power. Such men enjoyed great trust and influence in the ruler's entourage.

Negavon's fate was tragic: he drowned in the River Tisza during a military campaign in Pannonia, present-day Hungary, in 827 or 829. This incident is recorded in the commemorative inscription and is the only information we have about him.
