Nikola Hainchenina

Title: Hajduk
Active from: 1841
Period: Ottoman rule

Nikola Genchev Viranov, born on 29 June 1832, was a Bulgarian hajduk whose nickname came from his native village.

Nikola Viranov came from Hayneto and was present with a detachment in the Kotel Balkan Mountains in 1841. In 1875, he helped organise the Stara Zagora Uprising and crossed into Wallachia after its defeat. On 28 March 1876, Nikola Hainchenina secretly crossed into Bulgaria with leaders of the First Tarnovo Revolutionary District, including Hristo Patrev, Father Hariton and Todor Kirkov.

He led a detachment that took part in the Serbian–Turkish War. After his capture, he was held in Tarnovo Prison and later transferred to the prisons in Sliven and Edirne.

After the Liberation, the voivode returned to his native village, where he spent the rest of his life. The exact date of Nikola Viranov’s death is unknown.
