Revolutionary Marin Nikov

Revolutionary Marin Nikov
Marin Nikov
Marin Nikov Arnaudov was a Bulgarian revolutionary born in 1855 into the family of the wealthy woollen-cloth tailor and merchant Niko Arnaudov, originally from Varbitsa. Marin was the youngest son. He was educated at the mutual-instruction school in Shumen and then worked in his father's shop.
Together with his elder brother Georgi, Marin joined the Shumen Revolutionary Committee when it was founded in 1869. Both worked actively with Panayot Volov during his chairmanship. Georgi Nikov took part in the Shumen insurgent detachment during the Stara Zagora Uprising in September 1875, but there is no information about Marin. It is thought that Marin Nikov went to Romania to avoid the arrests of the rebels.
In 1876 Marin enlisted in Botev's detachment. Information relating to the search for his brother Georgi, who was among those captured and exiled to Mosul, indicates that Marin boarded the steamship Radetzky at Giurgiu and died on Okolchitsa Peak on the day of Hristo Botev's death: 20 May (1 June New Style) 1876.
