Kan Kuber

Kan Kuber
Kuber
Khan Kuber was a Bulgar ruler who governed in Pannonia and Macedonia. He is generally considered to have been a son of Khan Kubrat, a brother of Khan Asparuh and a member of the Dulo clan. Some Bulgarian historians suggest that Kuber may have been the son of Kubrat's brother and that Kubrat later adopted him. He founded Kuber's Bulgaria in Macedonia.
Kuber recognised the authority of the Avar Khaganate, becoming its vassal, and mixed with the Avar khagan's subjects, including Byzantine prisoners and Slavs. In an attempt to carry out a coup and free the central authority, the Bulgars under Kuber's leadership rebelled against Avar rule. After the failed revolt, they headed south towards Byzantine lands together with Romanised Byzantine prisoners, winning six successive victories against their Avar pursuers during their flight.
After these events, Kuber concluded a peace agreement with Byzantium and settled in the Keramissian plain, now known as the Prilep plain in North Macedonia. In 680 he made an unsuccessful attempt to capture Thessaloniki and conquer the Byzantine territories around the city.
