Kotrag
Title: Kan
Accession: 660
End of rule: 700
Period: Volga Bulgaria
Khan Kotrag belonged to the Dulo clan, which ruled Old Great Bulgaria. He was Khan Kubrat's second-eldest son. After Kubrat's death, while his brother Khan Batbayan became ruler of Old Great Bulgaria, Kotrag gathered the tribes over which he had ruled during his father's reign and set off upstream along the River Volga. They settled in the central and upper parts of the lands around the Volga. There Kotrag founded an autonomous state. Later it was called Volga Bulgaria because it lay in the valleys of the River Volga. He is thought to have had two sons, Irkhan and Ishkul.
