Kolyo Dobrovenski

Title: Voivode
Active from: 1894
Active until: 1904
Period: Ottoman rule

Nikola Kotev, known as Dedo Kolyo Dobrovenski, was a Bulgarian revolutionary. He was a voivode in IMARO.

He was born in the village of Dobroveni in the Mariovo region, which was then part of the Ottoman Empire. He took to the field as a hajduk at the head of a detachment and later joined the Internal Macedonian-Adrianople Revolutionary Organisation, becoming a courier and a member of Marko Lerinski's detachment.

After Marko Lerinski's death, Dedo Kolyo and other detachment members moved to the Kostur region. Their detachment was betrayed in Yurukovo, a hamlet of Krushoradi, where they clashed with Ottoman regular troops on 28 September 1902. Kolyo Dobrovenski was one of the few detachment members who managed to escape the battle.

On 20 July 1903, when the Ilinden Uprising was proclaimed, Kolyo Dobrovenski's detachment was in the Prilep region together with Tole Pasha's detachment. In September, they joined forces with Ivan Popov's detachment in Mariovo.

On 8 February 1904, Dedo Kolyo Dobrovenski's detachment was betrayed in Skochivir. In the ensuing battle with Ottoman regular troops, the voivode and two detachment members were killed; his elder son was the only survivor. A month later, he killed the Domazetov brothers from Skochivir, who had been accused of betraying the detachment.
