Ivan Hadzhidimitrov, also known as "Garibaldeto", was born in 1845 in Stara Zagora. He moved to Tarnovo in 1863. He worked as a coppersmith in Kazandzhiyski Square, near his house at 7 Mednikarska Street.

During the struggle for Italy's liberation, Hadzhidimitrov joined Giuseppe Garibaldi's forces, which gave rise to his nickname Garibaldeto.

He took an active part in the work of the Internal Revolutionary Organisation (IRO) and was a close associate of figures such as Vasil Levski, Hristo Botev, Georgi Benkovski and others. Hadzhidimitrov was one of the most active members of the Tarnovo Local Revolutionary Committee, serving as its chairman between 1873 and 1875.

He was a leading initiator of and participant in the Stara Zagora Uprising. After the uprising he fell under Turkish suspicion and was forced to flee to Romania. There he helped establish the Giurgiu Revolutionary Committee and became its chief representative. Hadzhidimitrov also assisted in purchasing weapons and ammunition for the Tarnovo Committee and was actively involved in its revolutionary plans. He also helped prepare the April Uprising of 1876 and organise Hristo Botev's detachment.
