Hajduk Georgi Kachaka

Georgi Kachaka

Title: Hajduk
Period: Ottoman rule

Georgi the Paulician, known by the nickname Kachaka or the Catholic Hajduk, was born in early 1820 in the village of Kalachlii, now part of the General Nikolaevo district of Rakovski. He belonged to the Petkov (Zotov) family. His life is known from several letters and a folk song.

During the first three years of his youth, Kachaka pursued hajduk activities in his home region, probably with a small company. However, the climatic conditions of the Plovdiv plain forced him to join Angel Voivode’s detachment, which operated in the Eastern Rhodopes. Kachaka’s fate after this period remains unknown.
