Dimitar Nochev
Dimitar Todorov Nochev was a Bulgarian fighter for Bulgaria's liberation and a member of Hristo Botev's detachment.
He was born in Pirdop. After completing several classes at the local school, he worked as an apprentice in a shoemaker's workshop in Karlovo and later opened his own shop in his native town. His name is recorded as a subscriber in Vasil Cholakov's Bulgarian Folk Collection, published in 1872. Because of his revolutionary activities, he was forced to emigrate to Wallachia, where he joined revolutionary emigrants, met Hristo Botev and became a member of his detachment.
He participated in all the detachment's battles until its defeat following Botev's death. He then joined Nikola Voynovski's group and headed east through the Balkan Mountains. On 1 June he left the group and set out for Pirdop with three other fighters. Because of hunger and poor conditions, the three were captured and sent to Sofia for trial. Noshtev managed to hide for several days but was betrayed by his own father and arrested. He was taken to Zlatitsa and then to Sofia. He was released under Murad V's amnesty in August 1876.
After the Liberation he worked as district head in various towns, including Dupnitsa, Orhanie and Dobrich, and later as a police officer in Berkovitsa and an official in Sofia's municipal administration. His son Todor Nochev died as a company commander at Seliolu.
Dimitar Todorov Nochev died in Sofia on 7 March 1916.
