The Battle of Rish Pass

Year: 759
Location: Rish Pass, Balkan Mountains, Bulgaria
Ruler: Vineh

Three years after the Bulgarian-Byzantine battle near Marcellae Fortress in 756, Emperor Constantine V organised nine campaigns against the Bulgarian state. Their aim was to subjugate the Bulgarian territories. In 759, Khan Vineh successfully fortified the Balkan passes and defeated and routed the Byzantines during another of their campaigns.

The Battle of Rish Pass ended in a Bulgarian victory. Khan Vineh began peace negotiations with the Byzantine emperor.
