The Battle of Kalimantsi

Year: 1913
Location: Kalimantsi, Republic of North Macedonia
Ruler: Ferdinand

During the Second Balkan War, Bulgaria's Fourth Army organised its defence along the south-eastern ridge of the Osogovo Mountains, the crest of Mount Golak and the upper Bregalnica River. The fortified Kalimantsi position formed the centre of the defence. Opposite stood the Serbian Third Army, whose offensive began across the entire Bulgarian front on 4 July 1913 but achieved no significant result. Another unsuccessful attack followed the next day. After repelling it, units on the Bulgarian right flank descended the Osogovo slopes and attacked the main Serbian forces and their arriving reinforcements from the front and flank. The Serbian army suffered heavy losses over several days and began withdrawing on 11 July. This ended the Serbian offensive towards Gorna Dzhumaya and prevented Serbian and Greek forces from joining in the Struma Valley.

The battle ended in a Bulgarian victory.
