The Battle for the Kresna Gorge

Year: 1913
Location: Kresna Gorge, Bulgaria
Ruler: Ferdinand

After the victory at Kalimantsi, the Bulgarian command redirected the Second and Fourth Armies towards the Greek front. The forces deployed along the Mount Golak–Gorna Dzhumaya–Yakoruda line were ordered to advance on 14 July 1913 and encircle the Greek troops in the Kresna Gorge. The Greeks had passed through it several days earlier, reaching Nevrokop and Predela. Subjected to fierce Bulgarian attacks, they quickly became completely helpless. Fearing for their fate, the government in Athens urgently appealed for a ceasefire, and on 18 July an armistice between the two sides was agreed in Bucharest. This was the last major clash of the Second Balkan War. The Bulgarian victory prevented Greek occupation of the Pirin region and a subsequent advance towards Sofia.

An armistice was reached between Bulgaria and Greece.
