The Battle for Lozengrad
Year: 1912
Location: Lozengrad, Turkey
Period: Third Bulgarian State
Ruler: Ferdinand
The Lozengrad Operation was the Bulgarian army's first major battle in the First Balkan War. It took place in Eastern Thrace from 9 to 11 October 1912. Bulgarian troops advanced against the Ottoman Eastern Army, initially concentrated around Lozengrad and subsequently organised for defence along the Edirne axis. Despite the enemy's considerable numerical superiority, the Bulgarians broke through its centre in the Gechkenli–Seliolu sector, advanced rapidly towards Lozengrad and quickly captured it. The Ottoman army's main forces were driven southwards and away from Edirne, facilitating the subsequent siege.
Success at Lozengrad enabled the Bulgarian forces to advance without delay.
