Tatar army devastates Bulgarian lands
Year: 1282
Location: North-eastern Bulgaria
Period: Second Bulgarian Empire
A Tatar army of forty thousand horsemen devastated north-eastern Bulgarian lands. The Byzantine emperor had summoned the Tatars to Thrace to counter the anti-Byzantine alliance. An uprising against Charles of Anjou that broke out in southern Italy in the spring of the same year brought an end to the coalition he had organised.
