Siege of Privat

Year: 1324
Location: Privadi, Edirne

Despite temporarily improving relations with Byzantium and his marriage to Theodora Palaiologina, granddaughter of the granddaughter of the Byzantine emperor at the time, Andronikos II, and sister of the claimant to the Byzantine throne, Andronikos III, Tsar Michael III Shishman undertook new military action against Byzantium. Operations were directed towards Eastern Thrace. Earlier clashes had taken place at Bizye and Bukelon. Following the victory at Bukelon, the troops' next action was to besiege Privat, the present-day village of Privadi.

The siege lasted two months. No battle took place. The two sides concluded a temporary peace because of the rapidly growing danger to both states posed by the advance of the Kingdom of Serbia. Serbia had already conquered most of the lands in present-day Macedonia and planned to seize Byzantine lands along the Vardar River and Bulgarian territories along Bulgaria's western border.
