Capture of Adrianople
Year: 1002
Location: Adrianople (Edirne)
Ruler: Samuel
The Bulgarian army under Tsar Samuel captured Adrianople (Edirne). While the Byzantine army was concentrated on the siege of Bdin (Vidin), the Bulgarians quickly reached Thrace. Many people had gathered in Adrianople for the traditional fair held on the feast of the Virgin Mary. The Bulgarians encountered no resistance, seized considerable booty and withdrew.
