Battle of Struga
Year: 1915
Location: Struga, Serbia
Period: Third Bulgarian State
Ruler: Ferdinand
The Battle of Struga took place from 26 to 29 November 1915 near Struga, Serbia, during the First World War, between Bulgarian and Serbian units. Soldiers of the 23rd Shipka Infantry Regiment, part of the 8th Tundzha Infantry Division, participated in the engagement. Despite heavy fire from the Serbian army, which sheltered in the town's houses, Bulgarian engineers successfully constructed a bridge of planks and beams across the Black Drin River, over which assault groups crossed.
On 28 November 1915, 34 Bulgarian soldiers managed to complete the crossing of the bridge and began fighting the Serbs on the other side of the river. After fierce fighting, Struga was finally captured at around 2 a.m. on 29 November 1915.
