Battle of Simitli

Battle of Simitli
The battle took place at the beginning of the Balkan War. It was a clash between Bulgarian and Ottoman troops.
After a campaign that had so far been successful for Bulgaria, the 3rd Brigade of the 7th Rila Infantry Division advanced south along the Struma River and successfully captured the Oranovo Gorge. At this point, the main forces of the Ottoman Struma Corps were concentrating in the Kresna Gorge and moving north to enter Bulgarian territory through Barakovo, with the aim of supporting the Vardar Army's operations at the Battle of Kumanovo. On 9 October, the two sides' advance units clashed in the Simitli area.
Initially, the Ottomans prevailed and occupied the position, but the Bulgarians counterattacked and defeated them. Another Ottoman column was also halted. With both columns stopped, the Ottoman advance towards Dupnitsa was repelled.
