Revolutionary Miko Markov

Miko Markov

Active from: 1870
Active until: 1918

Miko Markov Minchev was born in 1842 in Yablanitsa into the family of the notable Marko Minchev, a major merchant and innkeeper. He was the eldest of three brothers—Miko, Ivan and the youngest, Dimitar, later known as Yablanski—and also had two sisters.

In 1870 Miko Markov Minchev attended the founding meeting of the revolutionary committee established by Vasil Levski during his third tour of Bulgaria in the second half of that year. Initially, committee meetings were held in a room in Marko's inn, but after arousing the suspicions of a Turkish guard they were moved to a more secluded place.

Miko Markov Minchev was a central figure in the Yablanitsa Revolutionary Committee. Different sources identify him as its chairman or treasurer, financing its activities with his family's money. He attempted unsuccessfully to organise a group to free Dimitar Obshti after his capture.

After the Liberation, in 1881, Miko Markov Minchev was elected a member of the Orhanie District Committee of the Bulgarian Volunteer Corps. He later also worked in the construction business.
