Ivan Savov
Ivan Savov was a Bulgarian non-commissioned officer and revolutionary, known for his active participation in the Internal Macedonian-Adrianople Revolutionary Organisation (IMARO).
He was born in 1870 in the village of Kaluger, then part of the Ottoman Empire and now in Bulgaria's Belogradchik region. After completing his elementary education in his native village, he continued his training at the non-commissioned officers' school and entered service in the Belogradchik garrison as a senior non-commissioned officer in the 15th Lom Infantry Regiment.
In 1899, leaving his family behind, Ivan Savov joined IMARO as an instructor and district voivode in the Petrich region. In a letter to Hristo Chernopeev, he expressed his readiness to fight against Ottoman subjugation and support the revolutionary struggle in Macedonia.
After his successful work in the Petrich region, Ivan Savov was sent to the Kočani region by IMARO's Central Committee and armed by the Supreme Macedonian-Adrianople Committee. On 26 March 1902, in a battle in the Mushata locality between the villages of Garlyani and Bigla, his detachment clashed with enemy forces. Every member of the detachment, including Savov himself, was killed in the fighting.
Ivan Savov is thus remembered as a representative of the Bulgarian revolutionary struggle who gave his life for the freedom and independence of the Macedonian people.
