Antinogen Hadzhov
Antinogen (Geni) Dimitrov Hadzhov was born in 1874 in the town of Struga, the only child of Bulgarian teachers. After graduating with the fourth cohort of the teacher training courses at the Bulgarian Boys' High School in Thessaloniki in 1892, he joined the Internal Macedonian-Adrianople Revolutionary Organisation (IMARO) as a pupil, initiated by Aleksandar Chakarov. In 1895 he participated in founding the organisation in Struga with Chakarov and Porfiriy Shaynov.
Hadzhov became headmaster of the Bulgarian lower secondary school in Krushevo. In early 1903, while teaching there, he helped prepare the Ilinden-Preobrazhenie Uprising and was a member of the insurgent staff, participating in the defence of the Krushevo Republic.
After the uprising ended, he resumed legal activity and became a teacher in Ohrid, where he joined the district revolutionary committee. During this period he played a key role in restoring revolutionary groups around the whole of Lake Ohrid, as one of the most active Bulgarian intellectuals remaining in the region after the others had emigrated.
Antinogen Hadzhov died on 21 July 1912 in his native Struga.
