Ruzhitsa Tomb

The Ruzhitsa Tomb is an important archaeological site revealing the life and rituals of Thracian civilisation in the 5th century BC. It lies in the Bulgarian part of Strandzha and is significant for studying the architecture, art and customs of the ancient Thracians. The frescoes discovered on the walls of the burial chamber are a unique element of Thracian art. These decorations with abstract motifs, including triangles, rhombuses, meanders and others, are not often encountered in Thracian excavations. The survival of the frescoes and the detailed decorative information they provide are of great importance to researchers. The archaeological evidence, including finds from the tomb and surrounding area, offers insight into the religious and ritual practices of the ancient Thracians. Interesting ritual features, such as sacrificial vessels and ornaments discovered in the nearby mound, add to the site's archaeological significance. Despite the destruction of the tomb by treasure hunters, the discoveries make it possible to reconstruct historical and cultural aspects of ancient Thracian civilisation in the region.
