Roman Baths
The Roman baths in Varna, built towards the end of the 2nd century, are the largest Roman baths in the Balkans. The building, with its innovative heating systems, remained in use until the end of the 3rd century. The baths were a social centre in the ancient city of Odessos, where men discussed important matters. Excavations conducted between 1959 and 1971 uncovered part of the building, while new investigations refined its construction date to the late 2nd or early 3rd century. The ruins include statues of Roman gods and unique architectural features. They were also used in later periods, serving as a citadel and a prison during the Ottoman era.
