Pleven Epic Panorama

The "Pleven Epic 1877" Panorama is an art museum in Pleven, built to commemorate the centenary of the liberation of Pleven from Ottoman rule. The panorama is situated in Skobelev Park, close to the Kovanlak Redoubt.

Opened in 1977, the panorama is one of nearly 200 monuments erected by the people of Pleven in memory of the Russians, Romanians and Bulgarians who died during the Siege of Pleven. The design was by architects Ivo Petrov and Plamena Tsacheva; Nikolai Ovechkin of the M. Grekov Military Art Studio in Moscow created the paintings and was the project's principal executor. The panorama received 2.5 million visitors in the first three years after its opening and is included among the Hundred National Tourist Sites. The museum's architectural form is presented as raised upon four bayonets, symbolising the power of the weapon that brought freedom. The four horizontal rings around the bayonets represent the three assaults on Pleven and an additional decorative sculptural frieze symbolising the siege of the town.
