Helvetia

Helvetia
The Helvetia mound contains a Thracian tomb uncovered in the Valley of the Thracian Rulers near Shipka. The tomb was built on the southern edge of the mound. The burial chamber and vestibule are covered by a corbelled vault of well-dressed blocks joined with iron clamps set in lead. The broad, long dromos is built of various blocks bonded with clay and abuts the vestibule façade. The walls of the burial chamber and vestibule are covered with a thin layer of stucco imitating masonry. Differences in colour and texture indicate at least two periods of use. The floors of the chambers and dromos are covered with a thin layer of lime plaster, while the walls have an arched, pitched covering.
A horse skeleton in anatomical order was discovered in the vestibule. A bronze cheekpiece was also found there.
