A lost flag

A lost flag
Bulgaria is a country with a long and rich history. During its thirteen centuries of existence, it has changed its form of government, monarchs, territories and flags. Nevertheless, Bulgaria is the only country in the world that has never had a flag lost or captured in war or under any other circumstances, despite losing battles and wars. This is attributed to numerous tactics and systems employed over time. One example is the burial of a flag during the Battle of Shipka to prevent it from falling into enemy hands. Another is tearing a flag into strips and tying them around the waist so that it could be carried away unnoticed, a method used at the time of the Armistice of Salonica. Although none of our flags has been captured, numerous military flags from many other countries have been captured. More than sixty of these flags are kept at the National Museum of History.
